How to Clean Waterspots on Suede

    • 1). Allow the suede to fully dry before attempting to clean or remove the water spotting. Attempting to remove the water marks before they are dry can cause the spot to spread. Prematurely attempting to remove water marks could also damage the nape.

    • 2). Brush the suede with a suede brush or stiff upholstery brush. Do not use circular motions -- only vertical or horizontal strokes.

    • 3). Dampen a the corner of a cloth or sponge with water. Vigorously rub the corner onto any stubborn spots for removal. Ensure the cloth or sponge is only slightly dampened. You do not want to saturate the sponge or cloth and have water dripping from the corner.

    • 4). Lightly rub any remaining water spots with an emery board. Only rub lightly; applying pressure can damage the suede. Once the area has been rubbed, place the water-spotted area directly over a source of steam, such as a steamer or boiling kettle. You want the tail end of the steam to barely hit the suede. Do not place the suede too close to the steam source as both the heat and water from the steam can damage the suede.
