How to Wash Moleskin Upholstery
- 1). Remove lint, dust and pet hair with a lint brush or roller. Products such as the Gonzo Pet Hair Lifter Sponge or 3M's Scotch Fur Fighter Hair Remover can also be used to keep your moleskin upholstery free of pet hair.
- 2). Test any upholstery cleaner that you plan to use on a scrap piece of the moleskin fabric, if you had the furniture reupholstered, or on an unseen part of the furniture, such as inside a pleat, before applying the cleaner to the furniture. This will allow you to notice if the cleaner will in any way damage the color of the fabric.
- 3). Wash any removable throw pillow covers, arm covers or draperies made from moleskin in the washing machine. Use a delicate setting, cool water and a specialty fabric detergent such as Woolite. Line or air drying is preferable, as the heat from a clothes dryer can cause fading and deterioration of the fabric over time.
- 4). Press pillow covers or draperies on the wrong side of the fabric using a low heat setting. You can use a pressing cloth or towel for added protection.
- 5). Blot spills immediately with a white cloth or paper towel. Do not rub spills into the fabric, as this can cause stains to set. Once you have blotted the spill, apply upholstery-safe cleaner to the area and follow the product directions to completely remove any remaining residue.
- 6). Utilize upholstery cleaner to give your moleskin upholstery a thorough cleaning at least twice a year. Follow the manufacturer's directions for application and use. Once you have cleaned the furniture, allow it to dry thoroughly before resuming use.
