Fishing for Flounder in Texas
- 1). Buy a saltwater fishing license or a saltwater sport fishing stamp through the Texas Parks and Wildlife website or from authorized vendors in your area. Authorized vendors include sporting goods stores, bait and tackle shops, grocery stores and other locations.
- 2). Fish for flounder during the months of October to December. This period is called the "flounder run" and is the most productive time to fish for flounder due to their migration to the Gulf of Mexico for spawning.
- 3). Set up in areas like the passes and channels leading to the Gulf.
- 4). Use a fishing rod and reel with light tackle.
- 5). Use baits like live shrimp and killifish or mud minnows and retrieve it slowly along the bottom. For artificial lures, use worm jigs over barren bottoms. When fishing in heavily vegetated waters, opt for shallow-running spoons.
- 6). Observe flounder fishing regulations. The daily bag limit is five fish except during November, when the limit is two. The statewide minimum length is 14 inches.
