How to Use Loud Noise to Move a Rat's Nest

    • 1). Buy ultrasonic rodent repellant devices for your home or wherever the rats have invaded. Unlike humans, who can hear on a range from 16 to 20 kHz, rats can hear ultrasonic sounds up to 90 kHz. Ultrasonic rodent repellent devices are designed to emit a high-pitched sound that only rats and mice can hear. The sounds are said to agitate the animals so much that it will force them to move.

    • 2). Place the ultrasonic rodent repellents in the area where you wish to get rid of the rats. Be sure to place at least one ultrasonic device in the room or space where the animals are nesting, as well as in all other parts of the area. For example, if the rats are living in your home, place these devices in every room of the house, as well as in the basement, garage and attic. Because the sound waves can't penetrate through walls or thick obstacles, you may need to place more than one in a room. Ensuring there are enough of the ultrasonic rodent repellents throughout the home will eliminate any quiet places where the rats can find solace and re-nest. If you have enough of the devices in the area, the rodents will not be able to tolerate the sound and will move their nest away.

    • 3). Install a bird-sound device in the area where the rats have made their nest. This device mimics the cries of predatory birds, such as owls and hawks, that hunt rats. Many of these models come with two settings: a motion sensory that will go off when a rat passes by, and an automatic timer that sounds the cry every five to 30 minutes. Set up the device in the area where the rats are nesting. The rodents will hear the predatory birds, become uncomfortable, and move their nest out of the area.
