How to Weft Doll Wigs

    • 1). Thread your sewing machine with thread that is similar in color to the hair you are working with. Set your machine to the smallest stitch length available.

    • 2). Lay out your chosen hair product into a very thin layer, ensuring that the cut end of the hair is all in the same direction. The finished product will look much neater if all the curls are matched up at this stage.

    • 3). Cut strips of tissue from whole sheets horizontally at a width of 3 inches. Leave the length intact. It makes it easier to work with later.

    • 4). Lay out one strip of cut tissue paper on your work surface. Place a portion of your hair onto the strip, being sure to keep it as thin as possible. Lay a second piece of tissue paper on top the other. With your machine, sew two inches into the tissue paper.

    • 5). Lift up the top layer of paper to expose the hair. In the same manner as before, add more of your hair product to the strip. Overlap the hair slightly to create a more natural final appearance.

    • 6). Continue to sew the strip for two more inches. Repeat Step 5 until you have reached the end of the strip.

    • 7). Reinforce the weft by running the strip through your sewing machine again, sewing ½ inch above the original stitching.

    • 8). Sew a third line of stitching in the middle of your current stitches.

    • 9). Lay your weft out onto your work surface. Carefully pull away the top layer of tissue paper. Using a straight pin, slowly remove the tissue paper from in between your stitches. Be sure to leave the bottom layer of tissue paper intact.

    • 10

Fold the weft on the middle stitch of the bottom layer of tissue paper (tissue touching tissue). Sew a row in between the two lines visible.

    • 11

Fold the weft again on the last stitch made. Sew between the rows.

    • 12

Remove all tissue paper from the weft. If a little remains, don't worry about it. Better to leave a little tissue than destroy your handiwork.

    • 13

Gently comb your finished piece to remove any excess hair.

    • 14

Repeat process to create enough hair needed for your project.
