How to Troubleshoot a HP Scanjet 6200C
- 1). Make sure that the scanner is plugged into a functioning wall outlet if the scanner is not powering on. Unplug the power cord and then plug it back. If this doesn't work, try plugging another electronic device into the outlet to determine if the problem is with the power outlet.
- 2). Check that the connection cable is securely connected from your scanner to your computer. Unplug the cable and then plug it back in again. Try your scan job again.
- 3). Change the resolution settings of your scan if you are experiencing a fuzzy or unclear scan. To do this, open "Precision Scan Pro" on your computer. This is the software that came with your HP Scanjet. Click "Tools" followed by "Output Resolution." Type a value between 12 and 999,999 in the DPI text box. For color scans, choose any number between 200 and 600.
- 4). Sharpen your image in "Precision Pro Scan" if your scanned image appears out of focus. Launch "Precision Pro Scan" and click "Tools" followed by "Sharpen Level." Choose a level from the drop-down menu. You can choose between "Low," "Medium," "High" and "Extreme." Choose "High" or "Extreme" to sharpen the settings and retry the scan job.
- 5). Verify that you have enough system resources on your computer if the scanner freezes or stops in the middle of a scan job. To do this, click "Start," "Programs," "Accessories," "System Tools," and "System Information." From this menu, view "System Resources" and make sure that you see a number of 50 percent or greater. If the number is below 50 percent, quit any applications you are currently not using. To do this, click "CTRL + ALT + DEL" and select an application to terminate. Try your scan job again.
- 6). Complete a reset of your scanner. Turn the scanner off and unplug the scanner from the wall outlet. Wait a few minutes and plug it back in. Power on the scanner and try the scan job again.
- 7). Reboot your computer if the previous steps were unsuccessful at solving the problem. Try your scan job again once your computer restarts.
