How to Clean a Chimney Pipe
- 1). Lift the chimney cap. The chimney cap is usually firmly snapped into place on top of the pipe. It can be removed easily by simply pulling it off.
- 2). Clean the cap by using a garden hose and a handheld steel brush. Replace the cap if it is rusty.
- 3). Insert chimney brush. Use an up-and-down motion and scrub the sides of the chimney pipe with the brush. Most chimney brushes have a weight attached to the bottom which allows you to scrub thoroughly.
- 4). Examine the pipe. Use a bright flashlight and check the structure of the pipe to make sure the joints are still firmly attached.
