How to Design Your Own Cardboard Pamphlet Holders
- 1). Draw a 5-by-9-inch rectangle on the cardboard. From the bottom-right corner of the rectangle, draw a 9-inch line coming from the right of the rectangle. From the bottom-left corner of the rectangle, draw a 9-inch line coming from the left of the rectangle. You will now have a 23-inch line with a 5-by-9-inch rectangle located at the center of the line.
- 2). On the far-right corner of your 9-inch line drawn to the right of the rectangle, draw a 4-inch line going up. Draw a second 4-inch line going up at the far-left corner of the 9-inch line drawn to the left of the rectangle.
- 3). Draw a line connecting the top of the 4-inch line on the left to the top-left corner of the rectangle. Draw a second line connecting the top of the 4-inch line on the right to the top-right corner of the rectangle. You have created the back and sides of your cardboard pamphlet holder. The shape should resemble a 5-by-9-inch rectangle with a triangular shape on either side. The triangle shapes will have flat edges on the 4-inch sides rather than points.
- 4). Use the craft knife to cut out the entire shape of the back and sides of the cardboard pamphlet holder. Do not cut the lines between the back and the sides of the pamphlet holder. Use the back of the craft knife to lightly score, or cut partially through, the lines between the sides and back of the pamphlet holder.
- 5). Fold the sides in so they are perpendicular to the back of the cardboard pamphlet holder. Run a piece of masking tape along the inner seam, where the back and sides of the cardboard pamphlet holder meet to enforce the seam and hold the pieces perpendicular to one another. Run an additional piece of tape on the back, outer seam for extra support, if desired.
- 6). Draw a second 5-by-9-inch rectangle on the cardboard. On one of the 5-inch sides, draw a 5-by 4-inch rectangle. The two rectangles together should make up a 5-by-13-inch rectangle. Cut out the entire outer edge of the two rectangles. Do not cut the line between the two rectangles. Use the back of the craft knife to lightly score, or cut partially through, the line that the two rectangles share. You have created the bottom and front of your pamphlet holder.
- 7). Place the 5-by-9-inch bottom of the pamphlet holder down on your work space and situate the back and sides so that they fold around the back and sides of the bottom of the pamphlet holder. Fold the front of the pamphlet holder up so that the 4-inch edges connect at a 90-degree angle with the 4-inch edges of the sides of the pamphlet holder. Run a piece of tape along the inner and outer seams where the 4-inch edges of the sides and front meet to secure them together.
- 8). Run additional pieces of tape along the inner bottom edges of the pamphlet holder where the sides and back meet the bottom of the pamphlet holder. Place a second piece of tape on the outside edges of the pamphlet holder where the sides, back and bottom of the pamphlet holder meet for extra strength. Run half the piece of tape under the pamphlet holder and half up on the sides and back to secure the seams.
- 9). Use paint or decorative papers to decorate the outside of your pamphlet holder. The inside of the pamphlet holder can be decorated as well, if desired. Place your pamphlets and brochures into the pamphlet holder and enjoy the organization and convenience this project provides.
