How to Make a Hippie Headband
- 1). Lay out a soft, flat leather piece at least 48 inches long on a cutting board.
- 2). Use the razor knife to cut three 1/8-inch-wide strips, 30 inches long. Use the tape measure to determine where to cut the strips.
- 3). Measure in 8 inches from one end on each of the strips. Lay the strips on top of each other and pin together using the safety pin.
- 4). Start at the other end of the three strips and begin braiding the strips together.
- 5). Stop braiding 8 inches from the end of the strips.
- 6). Stack the three strips and pin at the edge of the braid.
- 7). Use the rivet gun with decorative rivets to connect the three strips together in place of the safety pins.
- 8). Tie the headband around your forehead using a square knot in the back to secure in place.
- 1). Choose the colors of love beads you want for your headband. You can do a single color, random colors or create a patterned color scheme.
- 2). Pour the beads into a paper plate. If you are creating a pattern of colors, place each color into a separate plate.
- 3). Use the measuring tape to measure the circumference of your head.
- 4). Thread a beading needle with a double thickness of elastic thread 2 inches longer than your head measurement. Tie a knot in the end of the threads.
- 5). Begin threading the beads by using the needle to pick up the individual beads and sliding them onto the thread.
- 6). Stop threading when you have two inches of elastic thread without beads.
- 7). Hold the elastic thread with one hand and use the other to cut the tread at the base of the needle.
- 8). Tie a knot in the end of the thread.
- 9). Adjust the beads so that you have approximately 1 inch of empty thread available at each end.
- 10
Tie the two ends together at the point where the beads meet. - 11
Slide the headband over your head and position on your forehead.
