What you'll see in the middle of this recession, when looking for advice on finding work, is a lot of information on finding job vacancies in lines of work that you're really not interested, that are a bore, a drudge, or just plain crummy.
Well, you may have to look for such jobs as your backup, but once you've found one to tide you over, here are some tips on finding work in your CHOSEN field...
Start By Working For Free This doesn't mean that you can be, say, a four star gourmet chef working for free for the local steak house.
But, you can do charity benefit meals and so on so that you can get yourself out there and become known as an expert in your field.
You never know when someone at one of those charity banquets is some wealthy entrepreneur who's about to open up a new restaurant.
Whatever your line of work, working for free isn't working for free, it's working in exchange for visibility in your field.
Keep Improving Do not rest on your laurels.
Okay, so you're one of the top one hundred chefs in your city, why not become one of the top ten? Keep expanding your "tool kit" of abilities, keep learning and keep getting better.
If that means apprenticing, when you're already a master, to someone who's a master at something you need to learn, so be it.
The road to the top begins with swallowing one's pride.
Make Yourself Known Make sure everybody knows what you do, what you're good at, and that you're available.
"Looking for work" sounds a little needy, but "available" sounds like "Wow, we better snatch this guy/gal up before the competition gets him/her!" Be Open and Be Flexible Going back to the top chef example, maybe your dream job is running your own restaurant.
Well, what's the root, there? Why do you want to run a restaurant? If it's so that you can design the menus and cook for a living, there's a lot of work that will allow you to do that, even if it means cooking for the senior home, you'll still be getting paid to do exactly what you want to do with your life.
