They've started...
those TV commercials that remind us that we'll soon be sick if we don't get our flu shots.
If you do get sick in spite of the shot (and studies show that they frequently are ineffective), don't worry.
There are plenty of drugs that the pharmaceutical companies are more than happy to sell you to for your sneezing and sniffling and coughing.
It's not a foregone conclusion that you'll get the flu, though, especially if you take your health into your own hands and begin now to follow some healthy eating tips to strengthen your immune system.
Here are some healthy suggestions for you:
  1. Begin with a fresh juice fast for a few days.
This will help to eliminate toxins from your body that otherwise might weaken your immune system.
  2. If you don't feel comfortable with a juice fast, at least eliminate those things which are known to be harmful and weaken your body's immune response: alcohol, caffeine, white flour, sugar, sodas, animal products.
  3. Start to eat plenty of fresh, preferably raw, fruits and vegetables, seeds, beans, nuts, and grains.
These foods are nutritious, loaded with the nutrients you need to support your immune system, and fiber to help eliminate toxins.
  4. Consume green drinks every day.
These could be in the form of green smoothies (one of my favorites is a mango blended with baby spinach) or drinks made from powdered green foods such as barley grass.
The chlorophyll in green foods helps cleanse the blood and is important in the immune response.
  5. Although not related to eating, these recommendations play an important role in keeping you healthy: Get moderate exercise and think about reducing stress in your life by taking up an activity like yoga or meditation.
You do not have to accept illness as a foregone conclusion during the so-called flu season.
Take action now by following these simple steps and you'll be rewarded with an immune system that can do its job and fight off invaders such as viruses and bacteria.
