Placemats for Children to Make
- 1). Dictate a purpose or theme for the placemats. Let your child know if the placemats are a gift for someone, or to grace your own table for a particular reason. This will help her decide how to decorate the placemats.
- 2). Cut poster board, tagboard or thick construction paper to fit the size (and shape) you want. Use a standard placemat as your guide if you are unsure.
- 3). Let your child decorate the placemat. He can arrange family pictures, cut pictures out of magazines, draw his own pictures, copy his hand prints, make leaf prints or decorate the placemat in any manner he wants. Glue pictures to the placemat with a glue stick. Decorate both sides of the placemat to make it more versatile.
- 4). Add finishing touches to the placemat, such as your child's name and the date of your project, glitter or any other embellishments.
- 5). Laminate the placemats or cover them with contact paper. This will protect your child's artwork from food and tears, as well as preserve it for years to come.
