How to Remove Shiny Spots From Polyester
- 1). Soak the fabric in vinegar and wash it with spot remover to make sure the spot is not a normal stain.
- 2). Stretch the fabric on an ironing board. It is easier to apply the sandpaper to stretched fabric than to loose fabric.
- 3). Rub fine-grit sandpaper over the spot in a variety of motions. Some circular, some diagonal, some up and down. This can roughen the fibers and take the sheen off the spot. If you rub the sandpaper in one direction only, then you may remove the shiny spot, but you'll have uniform scratches that appear instead.
- 4). Spray the area of the spot with vinegar, as the rough polyester will absorb the vinegar and help the fabric resist melting in the future.
- 5). Wash the fabric again to remove any loose grit left behind by the sandpaper.
