How to Convert W3G to AVI
- 1). Research and select screencasting software such as VirtualDub and CamStudio. Commercial options include Camtasia Studio and Adobe Captivate. Since a W3G file is not a true video and will contain extra data relating to the game, we cannot use a video conversion software and must use a screencasting program to convert to AVI.
- 2). Learn to use the software you have chosen. Commercial screencasting software will generally come with a detailed user's manual as well as support from the company which produced the software. If you have chosen a freeware or open source program, there will probably be helpful information available in the form of online help or user's forums where you can ask questions if you are having trouble. Be sure to pay attention to the support options available for the software you choose when you select it.
- 3). Open and run your chosen screencasting software and prepare it to perform a screen capture. Then, open the Warcraft III program and load the W3G file you wish to convert to AVI. The W3G file will be located in the Warcraft III installation folder, according to FileInfo.com.
- 4). Start the replay of the W3G file in the Warcraft III program. The option to watch a replay is located on the single player menu. At the same time you start the replay, begin a screen capture using your screencasting software. Let the replay run the entire way through while running your screencasting software to capture it for conversion to AVI format.
- 5). When Warcraft III is done running the replay, stop the screen capture from within your screencasting software. Most programs will allow you to play a preview of the video before saving it. If the preview looks acceptable, use your software to save the captured replay to the hard drive in AVI format.
