How to Choose Gazebos
- 1). If you are installing a wooden gazebo, determine the type of wood that is right for you. Choose from common wood types like cedar, teak and pine. Wooden gazebos may require treatment against warping and rotting. Many wood types, especially cedar, require a clear sealant every two or three years to guard against weather damage.
- 2). Decide which style gazebo you want. If an open gazebo is not the style you desire, choose a gazebo with a full enclosure or one with built-in screens. Choose from Victorian, Oriental or Mission; each offers open and closed varieties. Other styles are also available.
- 3). Determine what size of gazebo you want. Sizes can span from as small as a shed to as large as a small building. Choose a gazebo at least 16 to 20 feet across if you wish to use it for hosting parties.
- 4). Choose the shape for your gazebo. There is the basic octagonal shape, or opt for a square or rectangular gazebo. Note that the gazebo's shape can determine seating positions and placement.
- 5). Select a color for the gazebo. Natural colors (similar to building materials like brick, cement, wood and vinyl) like light brown are commonly used. However, there is a variety of other colors available. Paint and stain can be used later to change the color of your gazebo if you desire.
- 6). Figure out whether flash-flood resistant flooring is necessary. A gazebo can be purchased in a range of materials including wood, brick and cement. Opt for a gazebo made from wood that features a cement floor if you're placing the gazebo in a terrain subject to frequent rainfall.
