How to Make Fabric Post Cards
- 1). Use a ruler to measure and mark 4 inches by 6 inches on a foam sheet. Cut out with scissors. Measure, mark and cut as many 4-inch by 6-inch pieces of foam sheets as desired for this project. Also, you can cut extras to keep in a craft box for future use.
- 2). Assemble a variety of fabric swatches in contrasting colors and prints. Themes such as birthdays, new baby or holidays work well when selecting materials. Random colors and fabrics can also be used to make freestyle art.
- 3). Apply a generous layer of white glue or glossy acid-free sealer/finish over the 4-inch by 6-inch piece of foam.
- 4). Press fabric pieces and bits of ribbon or lace onto the glue and press with fingers. Apply more glue or glossy acid-free sealer/finish where needed to secure the fabric pieces and bits of ribbon or lace to the foam, but leave some fabric unglued where embellishments will be sewn on. Let dry.
- 5). Add embellishments, such as sequins, beads or buttons, by hand-sewing them onto the fabric where desired.
- 6). Zigzag the edges of the postcard on the sewing machine for a neat finish.
- 7). With a marker, write "Postcard" on the back of the card near the top center.
