How to Make a Mono Wind-On Leader
- 1). Set out 96 inches of Dacron, 30 inches of #6 wire and 30 inches of the leader line.
- 2). Measure and mark the Dacron line at the 32 and 44 inch points. Bring the two marked spots together and hold the Dacron up with the wire. Keep the loop on the wire facing up.
- 3). Thread the wire into the Dacron sheath, up through until the loop is just outside the Dacron.
- 4). Insert the thread bobbin into the wire coil to prevent it from going up into the dacron. Bring the coil around to the sheath of the Dacron with the bobbin and push the bobbin pin through the strands of the Dacron, making an enclosed line with the metal wire coil pointing up and and, yet secured into the Dacron.
- 5). Add the glue to the end of the Dacron sheath where the coil comes out of the sheath and down into the wire.
- 6). Wrap the Dacron at the glue using fly tying thread. Coil the thread at this point at least 20 times to make it as tight and narrow as possible.
- 7). Add a coating of Aquaseal to the entire wind-on leader and let it dry.
