Searching in Prescott Arizona
At the time I was experiencing a transformation of my spiritual beliefs and approaching a turning point in my life.
I had begun to question many of my previous spiritual and religious beliefs, and I was also contemplating where to spend the rest of my life.
I was approaching a time when I hoped to retire and was looking forward to spending more time in a warmer climate.
Arizona, and preferably the Sedona area was at the top of my list.
Contemplating all the options, Prescott entered my mind as a good place to move to.
I decided to check it out and so I drove over there to see what it was all about.
Entering the city, I began to realize that although it was beautiful, it probably wouldn't be for me.
I continued driving through the city with no particular destination in mind.
Soon I had once again left the metropolitan area and was back in the country, the thought occurred to me to just keep driving, searching for less traveled roads as I went on my way, knowing that sooner or later I would run out of road.
It would be interesting to see where I would wind up.
Driving past a landmark I was to later found out was called "The Thumb" a large mountainous rock stiching up in the middle of nowhere, the surrounding area became even more desolate.
Entering the forests surrounding Prescott, the road kept getting smaller and smaller until I felt I was probably in someone's driveway.
I was! Soon a beautiful log cabin was in sight, I had gone too far, there was no turning back, it was time to see what this was all about.
I needed to find out who lived here and what the message was for me.
These people are going to think I am totally crazy, I had no explanation for what I was doing.
I'll probably get arrested, or worse.
This is the west, they take care of themselves out here, they don't wait on the law.
As I parked the car and began the walk to their front door, I noticed it was awfully quiet.
Knocking on the door, I didn't know what to expect, knocking again I realized that no one was home.
What a relief, and disappointment.
Looking up at the Thumb, the message came through loud and clear, "There is nothing here for you, go back to Sedona".
As I drove back to Sedona, I mentally scratched Prescott of my list.
It's a beautiful area, but not for me.
