How to Keep iPod Songs on an iPod Using a New Computer
- 1). Turn on the new computer and install iTunes. Macs will come with iTunes preinstalled, but you'll need to manually install the program from Apple's website if you're running a PC.
- 2). Plug in the iPod's charger cable to the end of the iPod and the USB port on the computer. Some iPod shuffles have a small port to hold the iPod. ITunes should open automatically; otherwise, open it on the computer.
- 3). Click "Cancel" if a pop-up box appears asking whether you'd like to sync with this computer. Do not click "Erase and Sync," which will erase all songs from your iPod. To transfer purchases from your iPod to the new computer, click "Transfer Purchases" and enter your Apple login info. This will not delete anything from your iPod.
- 4). Click on your iPod's name in iTunes and "Summary" in the bar on top. Under the Options menu, select "Manually manage music and videos." This changes your iPod's settings so it will never manually sync with your new or old computer, and never automatically delete songs.
