How to Install a Media Filter Correctly for Proper Air Flow

    • 1). Disconnect the power supply to the air-handler unit by turning off the circuit breaker that controls the unit.

    • 2). Examine the return air duct for the media filter housing; look for a small space labeled "filter." Unscrew the two screws securing the cover in place using the appropriate screwdriver. If your furnace filter housing does not have screws, look for clips to unhook or slide the cover out to gain access to the media filter.

    • 3). Remove the dirty media filter by pulling it out of the housing. Place the new media filter into the housing by sliding it into place.

    • 4). Notice the arrows printed on the side of the media filter. Be sure to install the filter following the direction of the arrows to ensure proper air flow and filtration.

    • 5). Place the filter housing cover back in place. Tighten and secure the screws. Reconnect or restore the power to the unit by turning the circuit breaker back on.
