    • 1). Find all of the mold in the old building so you know where to clean. Mold will generally be black or white in appearance and is more likely to be in areas that are humid or moist.

    • 2). Use a vacuum cleaner with a HEPA filter to vacuum up loose mold spores. Do not allow these spores to get into the air.

    • 3). Add 1 qt. of hot water to a bucket. Then add 2 tbsp. of a household detergent to the water and mix the ingredients.

    • 4). Dip a scrub brush into the detergent solution and scrub the black or white moldy areas off of the surface. Saturate a cloth in cold water and wipe down the surface to rinse away the detergent.

    • 5). Scrub the surface again with an all-purpose household cleaner and the stiff scrub brush. This cleaner must not contain ammonia. Spray the cleaner on the surface and scrub with the scrub brush. Wet a clean cloth with water and wipe down the surface.

    • 6). Dry all areas of the old building that have been scrubbed and rinsed with a wet/dry vac. If you don't have a wet/dry vac, blot or wipe the surface with a large towel.

    • 7). Put a solution of 1 cup bleach per gallon of water into a spray bottle, and saturate all of the old building areas that were infected with mold. This disinfects the areas and kills the remaining mold.

    • 8). Let the bleach solution air dry on the surface to complete the disinfectant process.
