    • 1). Consult the manual included with your lights to determine the type of rechargeable battery needed. While most solar lights take a universal battery, some are specific to the brand and style of the light. Make sure not to use alkaline batteries, as they will ruin the solar light.

    • 2). Use a screwdriver to take the solar light apart. Some lights do not require a screwdriver, and simply pop off; refer to your manual before you begin.

    • 3). Place the pieces in order as you take the solar light apart. This will help you to remember the correct steps when reassembling the light.

    • 4). When you reach the battery area, gently remove the battery. Replace it with a solar battery. These can be purchased from your local hardware or electronic store.

    • 5). Reassemble the solar light. Make sure any screws that are contained in the unit are securely fastened. Place the solar light in the sun to recharge to 100-percent capacity. Remember that solar lights require sunlight to recharge, so make sure they receive at least two or three hours of direct sun per day.
