How to Address College Graduation Announcements
- 1). Place the graduation announcement and graduation photo in an envelope, with the front of the announcement and picture facing the flap of the envelope.
- 2). Write the recipients' names by hand on the front of this envelope. Informal names should be used here -- for example, Uncle John.
- 3). Insert the flap of the envelope into the body of the envelope. Do not seal it.
- 4). Insert the envelope into the larger mailing envelope with the flaps of both facing the same direction.
- 5). Seal the mailing envelope. You can use an envelope seal if you'd like.
- 6). Write the recipients' full formal names in the middle of the mailing envelope, on the opposite side of the flap. For example: Mr. Jonathan Smith and Mrs. Janet Smith. This should be written by hand in blue or black ink.
- 7). Write the names of the recipients' children (if applicable) under their parents' names. If the announcement is intended for other members of the household, you should mail a separate announcement to them.
- 8). Write the mailing address directly under the recipients' names. Write the street name and number on the first line, then write the city and state on the second line. The ZIP code can be written on the second line, after the state, or on the third line by itself. When writing the address, do not use abbreviations -- for example, Avenue, North and New York. Single-digit numbers in the address should also be spelled out -- for example, One Bond Street, not 1 Bond St.
- 9). Add postage to the top right corner of the envelope.
- 10
Turn the envelope over and write your return address in the middle of the flap, using the same rules described in Steps 6 and 8.
