Bedspread

  • 1). Lay two bandanas side by side with their hems just overlapping.Sew them together where the two hems meet.Sew another bandana in the same way to the side of one of the first two. Continue to sew a matrix of bandanas together, three across and four down.

  • 2). Trim the selvages and hems from the bed sheet. Spread the quilt bat out flat and lay the assembled bandannas over it, right side up. Lay the bed sheet over the top, right side down. Stitch down both long sides and across the bottom, using a 1/2-inch seam allowance and catching all three layers together. Turn the bedspread right side out, with the bat between the bandanas and the bed sheet.

  • 3). Turn in ends of the blanket binding and fit the binding over the open top end of the bedspread. Sew along all edges of the binding. Topstitch around the three seamed and turned edges of the spread.

  • 4). Hold the three layers of the bedspread even and sew again along each of the seams that joined the bandannas together. Start with both sides of one of the corner pieces and work your way across and down, one bandanna width at a time, to keep the layers from shifting.
