What is Acu-Yoga?

Acu-Yoga is a term invented in the modern age which refers to a blend of both "Acupressure" and "Yoga".
It is a system of exercise movements and postures that integrate the two ancient traditions of health maintenance.
When they are used together they increase the effectiveness and compliment each practice significantly.
Although these two healing modalities work to achieve the same goal they do so in opposite ways:
  • Yoga - works from the inside out by relaxing breathing, calming the mind and body through physical stretching and mind release.
  • Acupressure - works from the outside in by working directly on specific acu-points on the surface of the skin that move and change the inner energy flow.
Both of these systems balance and relax muscular tensions and revive proper energy flow throughout the body.
Acupressure, as with acupuncture, uses the pathways of energy flow in the body called meridians.
On each meridian exists points that can influence and direct this energy, known as "chi" or life-force.
In Yoga this vital life force element is known as "prana" and it can be increased through deep breathing and focused posture holding.
Acu-yoga is a self-help technique.
When used in combination, acupressure points are held whilst maintaining various yoga positions.
Pressure on the points helps to release areas of excess thus moving the energy into deficient places where it is needed.
The yoga stretching and breathing allows for deeper release of any tension, blocks, or toxins in the muscles, joints and tissues of the body.
A Preventative Health Care Practice In Oriental medicine it is stated that all disease (dis - ease) takes place when there is a build up of tension and energy in certain regions of the body that cause problems in the systems overtime.
Therefore, it is important to address these physical imbalances before they manifest as disease with further impacts on the internal organs and their functions.
Acu-Yoga is designed to be a practical way to achieve optimum health results for a modern day Yogi.
The body always seeks to find harmony and with the simple practice of this technique you can maintain the kind of even unobstructed flow you were designed to experience.
It is important in this modern day and age when a more sedentary, indoor computer life is the mainstay of many, that you become responsible for maintaining the balance of mental, stagnant work activity with a practice that eliminates any accumulation of tension.
Acu-Yoga might just be the thing you are looking for.
So, why not incorporate acupressure into your daily yoga practice.
There are a few Acu-Yoga books out there to help guide you through the process.
It is fun and easy to learn.
Once you get the major acu-points down you can incorporate them into your posture positions with little effort.
You will most likely feel a greater release and well-being that will make you feel happy, alive, and energetically relaxed.
These two great self healing teachings of the past can be a holistic method of maintaining the kind of health and longevity we all seek in our daily lives.
