Stain Removal With Ammonia and Water

    • 1). Mix 1 tsp. of ammonia and 1/2 cup of cold water in a plastic container or pot. Wear latex gloves to keep your hands dry.

    • 2). Dip a soft cloth or rag in the ammonia solution, stir the solution and wring out excess.

    • 3). Blot the stain on the non-washable cotton jacket with the solution-soaked cloth or rag. Do not wipe the stain --- this will spread it.

    • 4). Repeat steps 2 and 3 until the stain is gone. Pat the damp area dry with one or more paper towels. If the stain or a portion of the stain is still present, complete the steps in the next section.

    Stain Removal With Methylated Spirits

    • 1). Fill a plastic container or pot with 1 cup of methylated spirits, also known as denatured alcohol, available at hardware, chemical supply and home improvement stores. Wear latex gloves to keep your hands dry.

    • 2). Dip a soft cloth or rag in the methylated spirits, wring out the excess and blot the stain on the non-washable cotton jacket with the chemical-soaked cloth or rag. Do not wipe the stain --- this will spread it.

    • 3). Repeat steps 2 until the stain is gone. Pat the damp area dry with one or more paper towels.
