Cleaning your gutter can be fun and exciting.
The key to careful gutter cleaning is to minimize the danger before you begin.
This method is an easy way to clean your gutters in less then 30 minutes.
The fastest way to clean out the gutter on most houses is to walk along the edge of the roof with a leave blower and blow the leaves out.
The drawback to this methods is that you are working on the most dangerous part of the roof and that the gutter really needs to be dry, otherwise you are just going to be making a big mess and the project could even take you a lot longer.
In addition this method requires you to have a safety line and special roofing shoes when working on a shake roof.
Even with the proper safety equipment, this method it still fairly dangerous (an fun).
I only use this method it the gutter are dry and if I know that the mess will be easy to clean up.
Also when blowing out your gutters be careful not to redecorate the side of your neighbors house.
If you do, you will need to spray it down with water before the mud dries and your neighbor notices it.
Another 30 minute gutter cleaning job can be accomplished by using a gutter cleaning rake on a 15 ft extension pole.
Set your ladder up at every downspout and use your pole to clean up the areas in between the downspouts.
If the leaves in the gutters aren't very deep, you can clean them in 30 minutes.
If they are, it could take you as long as two hours depending on the house.
In nice weather it is also easier to clean gutters.
Raining and stormy weather can make the job more take longer.
The trade off When cleaning gutters the trade of with most house is that the higher the gutter is, the less leaves are in it.
For this reason, first story gutter normally take longer to clean the second story gutters.
I love it when I get to a 3 or 4 story house.
Often this will mean that the gutters will be very easy to clean.
Or that once I get to the top, the job will be manageable even if it is a little more dangerous.
But and even bigger factor is the proximity of the gutter to trees.
When I clutters I generally start on the side I know will be the easiest and finish where I think the leaves will be the thickest.
(Usually the back of the house.
