A garden nowadays is like having an extra room in the house, and increasingly, home owners everywhere are finding more ingenious ways of using the space. This has been greatly influenced by television programmes focused on gardening and landscaping. Presenters on gardening shows are now household names and encourage viewers to get their garden in shape with a DIY approach. One of the big new creative thoughts has been the use of decking which has inspired gardeners nationwide with its fantastic versatility.

Many people are completely put off looking for something like decking, fearing having to traipse around garden centers or out of town warehouses, searching for something they are not really familiar with. It gives an uncomfortable feeling to be laying something in the garden which sounds complicated and a bit like laying laminate on your living room floor. This is an understandable feeling, but garden decking online is not a mere dream. It is perfectly possible to go online and get exactly what you require from one place. Not only that but you can get all the advice you'll need to lay beautiful decking for your patio or barbecue area, invite your friends and family around and receive lots of admiration and praise.

When looking for garden decking online you will come across a fascinating story of a man who came back after The Great War, announced to his dad that instead of rejoining the family business, he intended to use his savings to start up as a timber merchant. Of course you can guess the response: "Don't come crawling back here when it's gone."

From such humble beginnings great things can grow and he could never have realised then that garden decking online would have been the result, easily obtainable by everyone. In fact it is reputed, the man, called Arnold Laver, simply, ‘took of his coat and fenced it himself', in Sheffield. His customers paid cash in advance so Arnold could buy the wood to fulfill their order. Deliveries were made by hand cart. Within the year they were doing well enough to buy machinery such as a saw bench and planer and buy their first horse, called Charlie, to make deliveries.

Arnold passed away in 1971 before PCs became the norm and online buying mushroomed. However, his family has continued to keep the traditional values that he instilled and the third generation of the family keeps the business running on smooth, successful joints.
