Fuel line connections are a critical component of a marine vessel. The U.S. Coast Guard has regulations in place that govern the types of fuel lines and fuel line connections used in marine vessel engines. The laws governing fuel line connections address the fuel lines to an engine's components. - This type of fuel line connection is typically supplied by the maker of the hose assembly since special machinery or tools are needed to perform the swaging. The swaged sleeve is usually connected to the fuel system with a threaded hose fitting.
- The sleeve and threaded insert connection can usually be fabricated by an installer utilizing normal shop tools. This connection is typically implemented by placing the sleeve on the outer part of the hose while the threaded insert is screwed up inside the hose and sleeve. There are also variations of this setup in which the sleeve is placed on the hose after the insert. The sleeve and threaded insert fuel line connection are usually connected to the fuel system through the use of a threaded hose fitting.
- The hose clamp connection is typically fabricated while installation is taking place by utilizing normal shop tools. The type of connection is fitted with a mechanically operated tightening component, such as a screw or bolt, but may need altering in order to make the connection secure. In most cases the hose clamp is placed on each end of the hose while it is loose; then, when the hose is installed, the clamp is tightened down. The hose clamp connection to the fuel system is usually made with a beaded, flared, or notched spud, hose fitting, or pipe.
