Hive Crafts with Honeycomb Cereal
- Trace the outline of a beehive on poster board. Cut out the beehive and have kids glue on the cereal to the poster board. They can decorate their creation by cutting out bees to add to the beehive. Another option is that they can make bees by twisting black and yellow pipe cleaners together.
- Take a Styrofoam ball. Glue honeycomb cereal all over the Styrofoam. Stick a wooden stick to the bottom of the ball. Kids now have a beehive that they can carry around. Make bees by twisting yellow and black pipe cleaners together. These can be stuck to the Styrofoam as well.
- Give each child a small plastic container or jar. Glue adjoining honeycomb pieces to the outside of the jar. Have them paint a honeybee on the cover of the container as decoration. Fill the container with honey. The kids now have their own beehives complete with honey.
- Give each child a large section of poster board. In one corner, have them trace a beehive. Next, ask them to glue on pieces of the honeycomb cereal to decorate the beehive. On the rest of the poster board, they can paint flowers and bees. As they are doing this, explain how the actual process works in nature to create honey. They now have their own model and will have a better understanding of the process when the craft is done.
