How to Keep Pools Clear
- 1). Test the pH in your pool with a testing kit and apply the appropriate amount of chlorine chemicals, based on your pool manufacturer's recommendations. They can give you a guideline on appropriate pH levels and how to apply chemicals for your specific pool model.
- 2). Clean sand and other sediment from the bottom of the pool with a pool vacuum. Purchase either a manual or automatic model. Manual models hook to a water spigot and use the power of water pressure to suction up debris. Automatic models hook into your pool's pump and use that source of water pressure to automatically roll along the bottom of the pool and suction up debris.
- 3). Sweep the top of the pool with a skimmer to remove floating leaves, bugs or other floating objects. Remove these objects as soon as you spot them.
- 4). Place a pool cover on top of the pool when it's not in use. This will prevent dirt and debris from entering the pool during these times and make it easier to keep the pool clear.
- 5). Clean the liner surface above the water line, if your pool has a vinyl liner, after each use by wiping it with a damp cloth to prevent buildup that could fall into the pool. Apply a vinyl cleaner and rub with a sponge if the liner becomes stained.
