How to Tie a Paracord on a Boonie Hat
- 1). Snip three or four pieces of paracord about 6 inches long. Fold each piece in half and pinch the ends together. Bend the ends down across the rest of the cord to make a loop. Push the ends through the loop and pull tight into a granny knot. These are your securing loops.
- 2). Slip the fold of each securing loop up through one of the nylon loops around the crown of your boonie hat. The securing loops should be evenly spaced with the granny knots lying on the brim of the hat.
- 3). Cut a 50-foot piece of paracord (any more than this is a bit heavy) and unroll it completely. Wrap a length of it around the crown of your hat in a snug circle, centering the cord against the securing loops. Tie the circle off by wrapping the end of the cord in a granny knot around the body of the cord.
- 4). Coil the paracord snugly around the crown of your boonie hat. Make sure the cord isn't so tight that it's difficult to wear; if it begins to push in the crown, loosen your coils a bit.
- 5). Tuck the end of your paracord under the coils. Secure the coils to your hat with the securing loops. Bend the fold of each loop down over the coils. Bring the knot of each loop up around the coils and slip it through the fold. This should keep the coils in place.
