    • Lanyards are often essential elements in everyday life. Lanyards fit around your neck with a clip attached, so you can hang an identification badge, a pair of glasses, a photo and many other objects for visibility and accessibility. It's easy to make lanyards from a variety of materials to suit your personal style. Supplies for lanyard projects are available at most craft and discount stores.

    Rexlace Lanyard

    • Lanyard projects made with rexlace are easy to construct. Rexlace is a plastic cord used in crafting and beading projects. Cut a length of rexlace cord slightly longer than the desired length of the lanyard. Thread a lanyard clip to the center of the rexlace. Tie each end of the rexlace around one section of a necklace clasp.

Alter the design of a rexlace lanyard by beginning with three strands of different colored rexlace. Dip the ends of the three strands into jeweler's glue and slide them into the coiled end of a spring coil. Press the end of the coil over the three cords with flat nosed pliers to hold them in place. Braid the three rexlace cords together. Before attaching the remaining ends to another spring coil, slide the lanyard clasp over the open end of the braid. Attach a necklace clasp to the spring coils with a jump ring.

    Beaded Ribbon Lanyard

    • Beading a ribbon lanyard is another easy project. You can add beads to any ribbon width by first threading them over a needle. To make a beaded ribbon lanyard, cut the ribbon to the desired lanyard length. Thread the lanyard clip to the center of the ribbon. Place both ends of the ribbon together. Thread a beading needle with a small amount of beading thread, double it and knot it at the end. Insert the needle through the center of the stacked ribbon ends. Pull the needle through until the knot stops it. Thread any kind of beads over the needle and onto the ribbons. Slide the beads all the way to the lanyard clip. Add several inches of beads to the ribbons at the top of the lanyard clip. Remove the needle and thread, separate the ribbon strands and tie each end around a necklace clasp. You can also use spring coils and jump rings to attach the ribbon ends to the clasp.

    Beaded Lanyard

    • Making a fully-beaded lanyard is another easy project. Begin with any type of beading cord; elastic, satin, silk or leather all work well for this project. Cut a length of cord to the desired length of the lanyard. Thread the lanyard clip to the center of the cord. Hold the ends together and thread 3 to 4 inches of beads over both strands to the lanyard clip. Separate the strands and bead each one individually to 1/2 inch from the end. Use spring coils and jump rings to attach a necklace clasp to fabric cords. Tie elastic cords in a double overhand knot around the necklace clasp. A bit of jeweler's glue over the knots will help hold them together.
