How to Use Fondant With Cricut for Cakes
- 1). Prepare your cake. Ensure that your cake is already torted and frosted and ready for decorations. Set it aside from your Cricut machine and workspace.
- 2). Prepare your Cricut machine. The machine should be on a flat surface, plugged in and the proper cartridge installed.
- 3). Prepare your fondant. Knead the fondant until it is pliable enough to be rolled out. Add any color that is desired during the kneading process. Use a fondant rolling pin or silicone rolling pin to roll out the desired amount of fondant as thin as you can get it. Your fondant should be thin, but not thin enough to see behind it. Use shortening on your rolling surface to ensure it does not stick.
- 4). Prepare the surface of your Cricut cutting mat. Grease your cutting mat with a little shortening to ensure the fondant will not stick. Place your rolled fondant over the mat and then use a pizza cutter to cut away the excess.
- 5). After your fondant is cut to the correct size of the mat, place the cutting mat and fondant together in the freezer. The edges of the fondant should be firm at this point.
- 6). Program the Cricut to the cutting pattern you desire. Remove fondant and mat from the freezer and place in the machine. Cut your fondant using the Cricut machine. Quickly remove the mat when completed and pull away excess fondant, but do not remove the shapes.
- 7). Place your fondant shapes, while still on the mat, in the freezer until edges are firm. Once firm, remove mat and fondant from freezer and then remove them from the mat. This way they are not warped from the removal process. Use frosting or water to adhere your fondant cut-outs to your cake.
