Leading by Fear, Strength and Brute Force

One of the easiest ways to lead people is to lead them by fear, and that means you need to lead by strength and a little bit of brute force.
In today's society especially in the United States we talk an awful lot about collaboration, consensus building, and communication.
It is believed, and psychologists are trying to convince us that this is the best way to become a leader.
Too little emphasis is being put on Machiavellian style leadership which actually works, and it works well.
The touchy Feely leadership strategies and theories of today only work on certain types of people, and still you might fall into the trap that familiarity breeds contempt.
Most people do not want to talk about leading by strength or force or about the fearless leader, or the man who is 10 foot tall.
This is because it is all about him and not about us, or we.
But even if we pretend that that is what we don't want, it is amazing how quickly the masses will vote for someone who they believe to be their fearless leader.
It's almost as if we are living in hypocrisy, we are telling our society on one hand we don't want strong personalities, and then on the other hand that's exactly who we vote for when push comes to shove.
Now, there is quite a bit of evidence that the consensus building leader is the new way to go, for instance if you read Collins book; "From Good to Great," where he describes leaders such as the president of Wal-Mart, and shows how these leaders are leading giant companies to success and profits.
We need to come to the realization that there are many types of ways to lead people and we should not be in denial of what actually works.
Sure, it might be best to be loved and respected, but that is not always possible.
This is why Machiavellian theory holds that; "if you can't be loved and respected it's best to be feared and respected.
" Now, most people would decry this conversation as taboo and something we should talk about as we want nice friendly leaders that make us feel all warm and fuzzy.
Yet, on the other hand we want to win and become successful in our collective endeavors.
Thus, we must realize, remember and come to the reality that leadership by fear and strength is sometimes needed.
Please consider all this.
