How to Keep Property Free of Coqui Frogs
- 1). The easiest method for ridding your property of its first frog is to locate the vicinity where the frog is hiding by stalking the noise the frog makes. Be sure to move very quietly because frogs are timid and, of course, are wary of predators.
- 2). Mix together five parts of hydrated lime with one part regular baking soda in a large container like a 5-gallon bucket, or use one or the other of these ingredients: they both work, but the combination is extra effective because the frogs breathe through their skin and dry powders like these prevent the frog from breathing.
- 3). If you know you have just one frog, a simple method of dispersing the powder is to fill a small nursery pot with the powder. Then, broadcast it in the general direction of the noise. Be sure you aim high, at least six feet above the ground, because that is most likely where the frog is hiding.
- 4). For a more widespread infestation of frogs, you can use a leaf blower with a dispersing applicator attachment to spread more of your powder mix over a wider area. Just fire up your leaf blower, aim about six feet off the ground in the direction of the frog's noise, and then feed your powdered formula through the dispersing applicator. It will shoot out the front of the blower and cover a larger area more efficiently than you can do by hand.
- 5). To help prevent more frogs from taking up residence on or near your property, deprive them of a daytime environment where they like to take cover. Clean up leaf litter under trees, and remove small shrubs or weeds that exist under taller trees.
