How to Clean Urine From Clothing
- 1). Place the urine-affected clothing in a large bowl, bucket or sink filled with 1 gallon of hot water as soon as possible. The sooner you can dilute the urine, the more effectively you can clean the item.
- 2). Add 1/4 cup of bleach to your gallon of water. If cleaning white clothing, use a chlorine bleach; if cleaning colored fabrics, use a non-chlorine, color-safe bleach. Allow your fabric to soak inside of the water and bleach mixture for three to four hours.
- 3). Remove your urine-stained clothing and place it in a washing machine. Add 1 cup of your preferred laundry detergent and 1 cup of the same bleach that you used during the initial soak. Complete one wash cycle.
- 4). Dry your clothing in direct sunlight if possible, to ensure optimum odor removal. If you cannot dry your clothing in the sun, use a commercial dryer and choose the highest heat.
- 5). Repeat steps 1 through 4 if any stains or odor remain on your clothing. If the stains have existed for a long period of time, you may ultimately need to replace the clothing.
