How to Copy a DVD Video File to a PC
- 1). Download a DVD ripping program (see Resources). Many of these programs are free and open source. They're designed to allow people to make backup copies of DVDs that they own for playing on other platforms such as the XBox, iPod, PSP and other devices. Install the program according to the manufacturer's instructions.
- 2). Insert the DVD that you want to copy into your computer's DVD drive.
- 3). Start the DVD ripping program. Many of these programs will come pre-installed with the most popular setup options. In the default settings, the program will copy a full screen version of the DVD to your "My Videos" directory. These options can all be overridden from the "Preferences" or "Options" menu on your program.
- 4). Select your DVD ripping options. These may include the format that you want to rip the file to (Quicktime, AVI, MPEG) and also the size of the output file (iPod Video, PSP, Full Screen). When you are satisfied, click "Start" or "Rip", depending on your program.
