    • 1). Pour white vinegar onto the rust and allow it to sit for several minutes. White vinegar is an effective cleaning agent since it is mildly acidic. It helps break up the rust without damaging the unsealed tile.

    • 2). Sprinkle some salt over the rust to further assist in cleaning the tile.

    • 3). Rub the rust with a damp sponge. If the tile were sealed, you could use a scouring pad, since the sealer would protect the tile from scratching. But a softer material is needed for unsealed tile to prevent scratching.

    • 4). Mix oxygen bleach powder with water in accordance with the bleach's instructions. Unlike chlorine bleach, oxygen bleach is nontoxic and is environmentally friendly. If you still have rust stains remaining, it can remove them without damaging the tile. Wear rubber gloves to prevent skin exposure.

    • 5). Pour the solution on the remaining rust stains and allow it to sit for several minutes.

    • 6). Scrub at the rust with the sponge and the remaining stains should come off.
