    Prevent Sinus Infection

    • 1). Get plenty of rest the day before your flight. Sleep at least eight hours the night before. Drink at least six, 8-ounce glasses of water before and after the flight. Avoid all other drinks, especially alcohol, soda and dairy products as these can all irritate the sinus cavities. Take a daily probiotic supplement seven days prior to the flight and seven days afterward to strengthen the immune system.

    • 2). Take an oral decongestant, such as Sudafed, one hour before the flight, during the flight (depending on how long it is) and 24 hours after the flight. Take the recommended dose on the box and do not use any more than recommended. Talk with your doctor if you feel like you need to take more than suggested.

    • 3). Keep the sinus cavity moistened and clean before, during and after the flight. Purchase saline nasal spray from a pharmacy for less than $5. Use this three times daily the day before the flight. Spray twice in each nostril 30 minutes before the flight. Use as frequently as needed during the flight. Saline is natural and there is no limit to how often you can use it.

    • 4). Eat raw garlic to provide the body with natural antibiotics. Buy fresh garlic from a grocery store. Take one clove and crush it with a fork 15 minutes before you ingest it. Place it on a spoon and cover it in honey so it goes down easier. Eat the entire crushed clove. Repeat this three times a day the day before your flight, the day of, and the day following your flight.
