How to Crochet Spiral Clowns

    • 1). Chain stitch 77 stitches with a size I hook to make the first row of the clown's body, legs and arms. Stitch three double crotchets in the second chain. Stitch three double crochets in the next 74 chains across. Single crochet in the first chain of chain 77 then chain one and turn. Double crochet into each of the first 50 stitches. Stitch three single crochets into each of the last 25 double crochets. Cut the yarn and tie it off to complete the second row.

    • 2). Twist the double crocheted section of the row you just completed away from you to make the leg. Twist the single crocheted section of the row toward you to make the arm. Repeat this process to make the second leg and arm.

    • 3). Chain stitch 21 stitches with a size G hook and variegated yarn to make the hat. Chain one and turn. Single crochet into the second single crochet and each single crochet across the row. Chain one and turn to complete row one. Stitch a single crochet in the front loop of the next 10 single crochets then chain one and turn to complete row two. Single crochet in the front loop of the next 10 single crochets then chain one and turn to complete row three. Single crochet in the front loop of the next 10 single crochets in row three then single crochet in the front loop of the 10 single crochets in row one. Chain one and turn to complete row four.

    • 4). Single crochet in the front loop of the 20 single crochets then chain one and turn to complete row five. Repeat the stitches in rows two to five four times to complete rows six to 17. Single crochet in 10 single crochets working in the front loops only and chain one and turn to complete row 18. Single crochet in 10 single crochets working in the front loops only then chain one and turn to complete row 19.

    • 5). Hold the sides of row two and row 19 so that their single crochets are together. Stitch a single crochet into each both rows of single crochets across. Cut and tie off the yarn. Attach contrasting yarn to a single crochet in the back of the hat with the size I hook. Stitch four double crochets in the same stitch and four double crochets in each upright rib around the bottom. Join to first double crochet with a single crochet and fasten off the yarn.

    • 6). Chain stitch 14 stitches with a G hook then single crochet in second chain from hook and in each chain across to begin the neck ruffle. Chain one and turn to complete row one. Stitch three double crochets in each chain across using a size I hook. Chain two and turn to complete row two and double crochet in each single crochet across to complete row three.

    • 7). Chain stitch 25 with a size I hook then double crochet in the second stitch from the end and each chain across to begin the vest. Chain two stitches to complete the first row. Double crochet in each stitch using the front loop only to complete row two. Double crochet in each stitch using the back loop only to complete row three. Repeat rows two and row three to complete row four and five

    • 8). Double crochet in the first four stitches then chain two and turn. Double crochet in four stitches then chain two and turn. Double crochet in the next four stitches to complete row six. (Front of Vest.) Skip the next four stitches and chain two. Double crochet in next nine stitches then chain two and turn. Double crochet in each stitch across then chain two and turn. Double crochet in each stitch across then cut and tie off yarn. (Back of vest.)

    • 9). Single crochet the front and back of the vest together with variegated yarn and a size G hook. Single crochet around the outside of vest and stitch three single crochets in each corner. Single crochet around the arm openings.

      Single crochet a seam on back of hat then glue a pom-pom to the top of the hat with the cold glue gun. Glue the hat onto the clowns head. Glue the ruffle around the clown's neck. Hold the two twisted sets of arm and leg sections together at about the 16th twist. Tie them together with yarn. Glue on four pompoms at the ends of the arms and legs to make hands and feet.

      Glue the arms and legs onto the clowns neck beneath the ruffle. Place the vest onto the clown covering the connection of the arms, legs and neck. Braid three 36 inch strands of yarn together and use it to tie together the front of the vest. Tie a bow with the braid and cut off the excess.
