Tulip Tie-Dye Kit Instructions
- 1). Wash the t-shirt to remove the protective fabric coating that comes on fabrics by default, as the dye will work better on a clean fabric.
- 2). Spread garbage bags or a plastic tablecloth to cover the working surface. Protect yourself from stains by wearing old clothes or an apron and plastic gloves.
- 3). Take squeeze bottles, one for each color, and pour dye in them. Mix it with water as directed by the manufacturer of the tie-dye kit. Shake the bottles until you have a uniform mixture. Increase the amount of water for more diluted and translucent colors.
- 4). Grab a part of the front of the t-shirt and twist it into a coil, like you would if you wanted to wring it out. Take a rubber band and wrap it around the the elongated spiral to secure it. Repeat the process in other parts of the t-shirt and also on the back of the shirt. Try other ways of folding the fabric, or make the spirals in different sizes to get more complex designs.
- 5). Squeeze dye from the plastic bottles onto the different sections of the t-shirt to stain the surface. Experiment with the dye colors, the folds and the proportion of dye and water to create different looks. Turn the t-shirt over once you finish working on the front and apply the product to the back of the t-shirt.
- 6). Place the t-shirt on a plastic-covered surface or hang it up for four to six hours, then rinse it with cold water to remove excess dye. Take the rubber bands off and let the t-shirt dry.
