How to Make a Flower Ending to a Scarf and Put a Bead in the Middle
- 1). Cut a 16-inch long strand of thread. Make a double strand of thread to sew with by threading your needle and then tying the two ends together in a knot.
- 2). Stitch along one side of the length of ribbon using stitches that are about one-half-inch long each – such as those used in basting -- which will amount to about 12 stitches. Cut the thread, leaving about a 2-inch tail.
- 3). Knot the thread ends together so that you will have something to grasp.
- 4). Hold the knot in one hand, while pushing the stitched ribbon away from it along the thread with your other hand. The ribbon that has been stitched will gather itself into a circle.
- 5). Adjust the gathered pleats as you work so that they are equal in size. Stop gathering when the diameter of the hole in the center measures less than one-quarter-inch. Fold the outer edges upward, creating a three-dimensional effect.
- 6). Cut another piece of thread that is about 40 inches long. Make another double strand to sew with by threading the needle and knotting the two ends together.
- 7). Baste stitch again, using half-inch stitches, starting where you left off. Stitch all the way down the remaining length of ribbon. Free the needle by cutting the thread and then knot the two ends together.
- 8). Hold the new knot and gently gather the ribbon around the first circle you made, creating a ruffle around the center of the flower.
- 9). Knot the dangling ends of thread near the flower and snip them so that the thread doesn’t show.

Thread your needle with 18 inches of thread making a double strand and knotting the end. Turn the flower over and sew the petals in place to secure them. - 11
Attach the bead by pushing the needle up through the front of the flower and threading the bead onto it. Sew the bead to the center of the flower. - 12
Taper your scarf end by using a similar gathering method. Sew a baste stitch along the end in half-inch stitches. Knot the end and gather the fabric together to the size of the diameter of the flower. - 13
Sew the flower into place at the end of the scarf.
