Is America Going Down the Drain?
What Happened to America? When I was a kid, there was absolute competition.
When I was a kid, the only people with cats were little old ladies down the street.
When I was a kid, America was a place that Americans wanted to be.
People from other countries didn't hate us at any level compared to present time.
What happened? Where did the personality of the America I remember, go? It seems that the availability of qualified youthful candidates for any responsible job, is a joke waiting to be made.
Though economic times have changed some minds as to accepting or actually working at their jobs, for the most part, the youth of today don't want to work and prove themselves.
Now, I realize this is kind of a generalized statement, but truly not far from the truth.
College kids are expecting to make six figures right out of school.
If they feel that the company they work for is expecting too much, they quit, instead of stepping up to meet the demand.
It's not just the youth of today that has changed.
Unions are still demanding raises and their members haven't done anything to earn it.
So, corporations are forced to raise prices when delivering to the public.
It's a vicious cycle that Joe Union member doesn't think about, he's costing himself more money when he goes to purchase goods.
It's not enough that corporations of the past had created all of these retirement payoffs that they can't meet, but really, who is meeting them, Joe Public.
When you buy a car the first $2500 goes toward the retirement of some past employee.
Why are you paying for someone's retirement? Shouldn't they have been taught to plan for their financial future? Let's go back 25 or more years when baseball was the main sport in America.
It was the early 80s and there was some parent who decided that no one should win or lose in sports.
They made it their mission to change the way sports were conducted so their son or daughter wouldn't be conflicted with the reality that they weren't a quality player in the game.
This tenant, "No one wins, we're just here to have fun," began to catch on and a whole coddling generation was created.
Take a step back and look at America now.
The young adults, when approached with expectations, fold.
They have never been expected to perform to a winning level.
This in turn is prevalent as you look at an America that can't compete with other countries that used to breathe our dust.
We have all of these environmental protectionists that also cut off our ability to compete on a global level.
I could go on and on regarding the changes in America and what needs to be done to reverse the road we're on, but until we get seriously involved with teaching our youth about the expectations to win and, that's what playing any game is all about, our country will have a hard time climbing out of its self-imposed box.
