    Restaurants

    • Restaurants offer many opportunities for teens who want to work. Teens can work in a fast-food restaurant and take orders, work the cash register, prepare food and help with cleaning. Another restaurant option is to get a job as a server or hostess at a dine-in restaurant.

    Retail

    • Teenagers also often work in retail. Teens get jobs at the mall, selling items such as clothing, shoes, books, and cosmetics. They can also work at large department stores or grocery stores as shelf stockers or cashiers. Some teens even work their way up to management in the retail industry.

    Babysitting

    • Teens often babysit for extra money. Teens should consider babysitting for a family member or for families in the neighborhood. Some teens regularly babysit for one family, while others babysit for several families and fill in when they are needed.

    Lawn Care

    • Teenagers can talk their parents into letting them borrow the family's lawn mower and go around the neighborhood cutting people's lawns for money. This is a great option for a teen that doesn't have a driver's license or transportation to get to a job outside his or her neighborhood.

    Lifeguard

    • Many pools open for the summer while school is out. Public pools normally have lifeguards so that swimmers are safe. Lifeguarding is a good job for teens because they get to spend time in the sun at a pool and work at the same time. Training will be required for this job.
