How to Use a Ratchet Tie-Down Strap
- 1). Place the strap around the item and around the object to which you are securing the item. Most trucks have hooks inside the truck bed or rails on the bed of the truck.
- 2). Move the ratchet so it is easy to reach. If the tie-down strap is not assembled, insert the end of the strap into the slot in the ratchet and thread it through the other slot.
- 3). Pull the strap to tighten it. Raise the handle on the ratchet, then lower the handle back to the starting position. Continue raising and lowering the handle until the strap is sufficiently tightened.
- 4). Place the ratchet handle in the lowered position and ensure the straps are taut around the item to prevent it from moving or sliding during transport.
- 5). Release the straps by pulling and holding the release tab located on top of the ratchet and opening the ratchet handle fully. Grasp the strap and pull it to release the tension. Press the release tab on top of the ratchet and lower the ratchet handle into the starting position.
