How to Make a Soft Sculpture

    • 1). Cut the legs off two pairs of clean pantyhose. For a pumpkin color, use an orange-brown shade of hose or dye lighter-colored hose using a household fabric dye.

    • 2). Trim off the feet and toes. Then lay the legs in a spoke pattern, evenly spaced and all crossing in the middle. Knot the legs, one pair at a time, by tying the first pair together in the middle and tying the last two pairs around that knot. Spread the center-knotted tubes out in a ray of eight spokes.

    • 3). Stuff each spoke with handfuls of fiberfill until each one is fat and firm. Smooth out any bumps.

    • 4). Gather the ends of the tubes and wrap a rubber band tightly around them, pulling the stuffed tubes into a pumpkin shape. Snip 1 inch off the end of one leg in a single, unbroken band. Make sure the snipped piece is a complete circle.

    • 5). Take one trimmed toe and slip it over the rubber-banded ends to make the stem. Wind the snipped band of stocking around this again and again until it fits tightly. The stocking band blends into the "stem" and holds it on the pumpkin.

    • 6). Plump up your pumpkin to give it a nice shape and decorate, if you choose, with cut-out green felt leaves or black acrylic painted jack-o-lantern eyes, nose and mouth.
