    • 1). Place a jig head hook in the jaws of a fly-tying vise. The hook should be positioned so the bend of the hook is held securely in place with the barb and point on the bottom. Load a thread color of your choice in the thread bobbin by placing the spool between the round tension arms on either side of the tool.

    • 2). Wrap the thread around the shank of the hook several times, starting just below the lead head of the jig and working the thread about halfway down the shank.

    • 3). Select the amount of feathers that will be used to add a life-like appearance to the jig. Divide the feathers in half. Place half of the feathers on the shank with the ends next to the lead head. Tie these feathers in place with several wraps of thread.

    • 4). Remove the jig head hook from the vise and turn it over so the opposite side of the hook can be accessed. Place the other half of the feathers on this side and tie them in place with thread.

    • 5). Choose a body material such as chenille. Begin wrapping the body material at the lead head and work halfway down the shank of the hook. Tie the material in place with several widely spaced wrappings of thread. Tie the thread off with two simple overhand knots. Cut the thread with scissors when finished.
