How to Catch a Bat in Your Attic
- 1). Prepare yourself before searching for bats. Wear thick leather gloves and get a net or plastic container to try and catch the bat. If possible, scout around the outside of your attic to determine where the bat got in. There will likely be a hole with brownish streaks around it from the bat's fur rubbing on it. Also, check for any other access points where bats or other unwanted animals could get in.
- 2). Wait until dark and stand outside to make sure the bat has exited your home. Go in the attic and seal off the hole that the bat was using as an access point, as well as any other holes. Use wire mesh to cover holes and nail in place. if you are attempting to catch the bat instead of excluding it, go in the attic during the daytime and scoop it into a net or plastic container, hopefully while it's sleeping.
- 3). Leave a couple of lights on in the attic after the bat has been excluded, as well as a fan. Bats don't like fans or light, and if you happened to miss a hole that the bat could enter through, this will keep the bat out.
