How to Install an iPod Adapter
- 1). Locate the number on your adapter. All iPod adapters are embossed with a number between 1 and 18.
- 2). Determine if you have the correct adapter for your iPod model by visiting the link in "Resources" titled "iPod Models Supported by Adapter." Scroll down the page until you find the number displayed on your adapter in the chart. Ensure that your iPod is one of the models supported by the adapter. If you do not have the correct adapter, you can purchase one directly from Apple. A link to the Apple Store is provided in "Resources."
- 3). Insert the adapter into the dock. The rectangular slit in the adapter fits over the plug protruding from the inner well of the dock. To insert the adapter: Position the adapter so that it is parallel to the well in the dock. Hold the adapter so that the portion of the adapter that protrudes is facing downward, and the side of the adapter with the thickest rim is facing the rear of the dock. The rear of the dock can be easily identified as the side of the dock furthest from the dock's well. It is also the side with two openings on it. One of these openings is circular, and is called the "line out port"; the other opening is rectangular, and is called the "dock connector port." (See References 2)
- 4). Wipe off the bottom of your iPod with a soft cloth to ensure that nothing gets trapped between the bottom of your iPod and the iPod adapter.
- 5). Insert your iPod into the adapter by orienting the iPod so that it is parallel to the well on your adapter, with the front of the iPod facing the front of the dock.
